Reception and Year 1

Spring Term 2026

The children in Phoenix class experienced a busy spring term. The children particularly enjoyed our history topic about toys from the past. We had a fabulous afternoon where grandparents were able to come and share some of their toys as well as their experiences about growing up.

In science the children enjoyed taking part in Science day, as well as learning about Materials. Linked with their Design and Technology work they were able to test materials, design, make and evaluate their own boats. They also loved designing their own earmuffs linked with their work about Chester Greenwood, a famous scientist who invented the first earmuffs.

In RE the children shared special stories and places to them and linked them to how there are special books / stories and places in other religions.

In Music, the children experienced how music and movement are linked and also how music can be used to tell stories. They particularly enjoyed being animals whilst listening to the ‘Carnival of the animal.

The children as well as Miss Goodwin, really enjoyed dressing up and being part of World Book Day.

Year R and 1- Spring 2026

Autumn Term 2025

During the Autumn terms the children have not only focused on texts and a historical figure (Florence Nightingale) promoting the ‘people who help us’ topic but R1 also had the opportunity to meet some superheroes within our community and people who help us! We have been extremely lucky to have visits from Kettering fire service, paramedics and the police!  The children also had a fabulous day dressing up as a hero or someone they inspired to be.

The children also participated in their nativity of ‘Christmas with the Aliens’. The children were amazing and really enjoyed getting into the Christmas spirit. The children also enjoyed learning the meaning behind Christmas and participated in a Christmas wow day!
