Year 3 and 4

Spring Term 2026

Centaur have had a very busy Spring Term, packed with lots of practical experiences and visits to enrich our learning.
RE

Our RE unit of work has focussed on exploring the Hindu faith which we have all found very interesting. We have explored the key themes around worship, rituals, stories and beliefs and even went on a trip to a local Hindu Mandir, where we had practical experience of prayer and worship, Hindu music, the many deities that form the foundations of Hindu beliefs and were able to ask many questions to our guide. Back in the classroom, we spent time learning about Hindu Dharmas - the duties that Hindus follow in order to live a sin free life. We learned about the life of Mahatma Gandhi also, and his influences on Hindu beliefs. We have all really enjoyed learning about Hinduism, and have been able to make some good links between other faiths.

Art and Design

To support our work on The Stone Age in History, we have developed our drawing skills by being cave artists! We have explored the basic principles of cave art, what early humans chose to draw to represent their lives and learned how to represent our own ideas by looking carefully at shape, line and proportion. We have used natural materials to create a Stone Age colour palette and made our own textured cave walls using cous cous, lentils and oats. We then attempted to paint some animals on these textured surfaces - here are a few of our creations! We decided in the end we would not like to have lived in the Stone Age, as Art is so much easier on paper!

Science

As part of our work on The Stone Age, we have been busy learning about rocks, soils and their properties. We have been on walks around the village looking at the different uses of rocks, and carried out experiments to test their durability, density and permeability. We have also learned how fossils are formed, and have been keen to bring in examples of fossils we have had at home.

A very busy term which has kept us all on our toes!. Well done Year 3 and 4.

Y3 and Y4 - Spring 2026

Autumn 2025

Centaur class have had an extremely busy 3 months at school, full of exciting learning opportunities across all aspects of the curriculum. Here are just a few highlights.

History

We have begun this academic year with possibly one of the most exciting and interesting History topics - The Romans! A whole 12 weeks is still not enough to learn all about this exciting civilisation, and the legacy they left in Britain. Some of our favourite parts have included learning about the power and force of the Roman Army, Boudicca's rebellion, finding out all about the Gods and Goddesses they worshipped, the settlements and towns they build and of course participating in our hands on Roman enrichment day in school. We also took part in a re-enactment on the playground to help us understand Julius Caesar's attempted invasions. We have learned lots and brought our experiences to life in many different ways.

Design and Technology

This half term we have been enjoying working on a practical project - to design and build a castle for a particular purpose. Our structures have had to be strong and sturdy, use a mixture of packaging materials and 3D shape nets, have a flagpole and a drawbridge and reflect the personality of the person we are designing it for. We have been working well in pairs on this project, developing teamwork and negotiation skills along the way. Here are some of our completed castles.

Well done Centaur class - have a well-deserved rest over Christmas ready for another busy term in January. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
